providing hands-on pain relief for over 40 years

History of the American Institute For Myofascial Studies, LLC (AIMS)

I have always wanted to teach Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy. When George S. Pellegrino and I became business partners in 1997, that dream came true with the establishment of the American Institute For Myofascial Studies (AIMS) MyoRehab Seminar Series.

The Myofascial Pain and Dysfunction Manuals

Our goal was to carry on Dr. Janet G. Travell’s work in pain management. We used the “Red Bible,” Myofascial Pain and Dysfunction, The Trigger Point Manual, Volumes I & II, as the basis of our teaching and added other teachings and references from all the great luminaries who have followed in her footsteps.

Though George is no longer with us, I continued to teach the seminars until 2012, adding Fascia Manipulation and Joint Realignment to the Trigger Point Pressure Release. This protocol is now called Myofascial Realignment Therapy.

Development of the AIMS MyoRehab Seminar Series

2003–2004 From October 2003 to May 2004, MyoRehab Seminars, GS Pellegrino, LMT, CMTPT, and I presented five three-day seminars. Each seminar included Principles and Practices and one different body region. The seminars were presented to licensed pain practitioners and included lecture and hands-on lab training in Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy.

2004 AIMS, LLC, MyoRehab Seminar Series, GS Pellegrino, LMT, CMTPT, RMTI and VL Magown, CMTPT, LMT, RMTI, offer a National Certification Exam to become a Certified Manual Trigger

2004–2010 In October 2004, AIMS, LLC, GS Pellegrino, LMT, CMTPT, RMTI and VL Magown, CMTPT, LMT, RMTI present Principles and Practices as a separate five-hour seminar presented four times a year as a prerequisite to all other seminars. All other seminars are 16-hour, two-day seminars.

By September 2006, the Principles and Practices seminar becomes an eight-hour seminar presented four times a year, and continues to be a prerequisite to all other seminars.

2004–2007 AIMS, LLC, GS Pellegrino, LMT, CMTPT, RMTI and I present seven seminars a year on Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy of different body regions. The two additional seminars are 16-hour, two-day Advanced Lower Body and Advanced Upper Body. These seminars teach mobilization techniques which are within all licensed pain practitioners’ scope of practice, and include Muscle Energy Techniques and traction/re-alignment of joints.

2008–2012 AIMS, LLC, adds two more seminars, 8 hours each, for a total of ten seminars a year. One seminar is Lab: Clinical Applications and the other is Seminar Series Overview in preparation for the National Certification Exam to become a Certified Myofascial Trigger Point Therapist.
